This is to certify the Marvin J. Derrick, MD attended an intensive training course with Ronald Bush MD. This included in depth training on ultrasound, endoluminal procedures, laser therapy for spider veins, sclerotherapy, treatment of perforating veins and venous ulcers.  Dr. Derrick demonstrated exceptional clinical and diagnostic skills in the treatment of venous disease.

Dr. DerrickMarvin J. Derrick, M.D., FACS  FCCP

Marvin J. Derrick, M.D., received his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1981.  He was awarded membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society which placed him in the top 10% of his graduating class.  After five years of general surgery residency at the University of California at Davis, Dr. Derrick completed one year of research on lung cancer at the City of Hope Medical Center in Duarte, California.  Following this he completed a two year thoracic surgical residency program at the University of California, San Diego.  Before joining California Cardiac Surgeons in 1991, Dr. Derrick was a practicing thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon in Los Angeles, California.  Dr. Derrick has been treating thoracic and cardiovascular disease in Bakersfield for the last fifteen years.  He is known throughout the state as a premiere cardiothoracic surgeon.  He has performed over 3,000 open heart surgeries here in Kern County.   

  • Dr. Derrick is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
  • Dr. Derrick is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, a member of the Western Thoracic Surgical Association, a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and  a member of the American College of Phlebology.
  • He is currently an associate program director for the Kern County Surgical Residency Program and carries the title of Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of California, San Diego.  He has lectured extensively to medical and community groups.
  • He has held the title of President of the Local Chapter of the American Heart Association and serves on numerous hospital committees.  He is currently Chief of Staff at the Bakersfield Heart Hospital and serves as the Director of Cardiac Surgical Services at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital. 
  • He has contributed significantly to the medical literature in the field of cardiovascular disease.  His publications include articles in the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and the Journal of Cardiac Surgery.

Kathy L. Derrick, R.N.

Kathy L. Derrick, R.N., was born in Atlanta, Georgia.  She graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in liberal arts.  She came to California and graduated from the Bakersfield College Nursing program with honors.  She has worked in emergency medicine over the last ten years and is certified in ACLS and CPR.  She has received training in aesthetic medicine, botox, restylane, and facial treatments under the direction of Anna D. Rinehart, SCS, in Austin, Texas.  She has also undergone specialized training in a variety of chemical facial peels to achieve cleaner, brighter and more youthful skin.  She has had training with the Lightsheer™ EC laser for hair removal and with the Quantum™ SR/DL laser for skin rejuvenation, photo-facial therapy, fine lines, sun damage/pigment lesions, and Nd: YAG laser ablation of veins.
